what it means to be a ka'ewai dolphin

Ha'aheo & dolphins awards

Each quarter Ka'ewai faculty recognize exempilary students with high academic achievement with the nominations of our Ha'aheo Award and Dolphin Award.  Students who earn this distinction are invited to participate in Ka'ewai's invite only luncheon.  Afterwards they are celebrated during our school-wide assembly and recognized by their peers and the rest of the Ka'ewai faculty & staff.  It is through our commitment to excellence where we celebrate our school's culture and provide exempilary models for our student body and the rest of Kalihi Valley.

1:1 on the cutting edge of technology.

what it means to be a 1:1 school

Building a One-to-One technology environment is important for the education for all of our children. Why the change to a one to one environment? At this point, the technology tools (Chromebooks) that we currently have are being used extensively each day which in turn allows us to accommodate all of the classes third though fifth grade. that wish to utilize them. To support our school mission in an era of unprecedented change, Ka'ewai Elementary is committed to equipping its students with the technological fluency and digital citizenship necessary to sustain learning, foster leadership and ensure future success.

Benefits of 1:1 Programs

One-to-One programs are an element in an international move towards individualizing learning, which can increase independence and self-initiated learning in students, and extend their learning beyond the classroom. Students who have their own laptop computers and iPads have been found to take greater pride and ownership over the knowledge they create, with a flow-on to more flexible forms of schooling. One-to-One programs can extend formal learning communities to include parents, siblings and other people important in students' lives.  Also, the programs may lead to initiating global communication and collaboration and develop creative expression.
